Vashon Heritage Museum

Built in 1907 by Norwegian immigrants, our museum home first served as a Lutheran church - a place of worship and study for themselves and their children.

Museum Hours: Wed-Sun 1:00-4:00pm

Enter the 1907 building and you’re in the story of a special island in the Salish Sea, a local story reflected regionally and in the evolution of American history.

Vashon’s story tracks diverse groups of people and their impact on natural history and use of resources over thousands of years, islanders whose conflicting visions for their lives and legacy drove off and inflicted misery on some, caused contentment for others, and eventually brought gentrification as people attempted to find their place in this part of the world, an island in the Salish Sea.
