Mapping Vashon

From the sx̌ʷəbabs Native People's place names on Vashon, to the first Euro-American maps by George Vancouver (1791) and Charles Wilkes (1841), to the modern LIDAR (Light Detecting and Ranging) laser maps and satellite generated GoogleMaps, humans have tried to understand Vashon Island by naming it and mapping it. The Heritage Museum exhibit Mapping Vashon explores the range of ways Vashon has been mapped and displays a variety of maps to help us understand how maps have enabled us define this place we call home.
