Temporary Museum Closure

Dear VHM friends,
.
Vashon Heritage Museum was created to ensure the preservation of our heritage and culture, to exhibit our diverse history and to tell the inspiring stories of our Island community to thousands of students, families and visitors from around the region and the nation.  Our first responsibility has always been to the health and well-being of our local Vashon community.  With the current situation of living with COVID-19 in our Vashon Community, the Heritage Museum has taken steps to mitigate the potential spread of this virus.  Vashon Heritage Museum has made the difficult decision to temporarily close our museum to the public.
.
We will be closed to visitors through March 24th .  At that time we will make the decision when in the interest of public health and safety we will open again.
.
Factors that play into our decision to close, revolve around respecting the safety and security of all members of our community – the general public, our docents, volunteers and our membership.
.
The operations of the museum areas of Collections, Research and Administration will continue on an abbreviated schedule with all volunteers and staff encouraged to work remotely or to stay home if they are not feeling well or feel uncomfortable to be attending meetings and work sessions.  Video conferencing is recommended and encouraged whenever possible.
.
We look forward to opening our doors and welcoming our membership and the public back into our museum and to view our current special exhibit, “In and Out” Being LGBTQ On Vashon which has been extended to June 5th, and our new opening of Wild Wonder, A Journey Through Vashon’s Natural History, opening in July.
.
Looking forward to seeing you at the museum when we reopen soon.
.
Wishing you good health,
.
