If walls could talk, would your home tell you stories of:
- The first Strawberry Festival? Held on the Island in 1912.
- Inhabitants returning home from the first lending library? Formed at Burton in 1916.
- Cars rumbling by to catch the Vashon Heights to Fauntleroy ferry? Beginning in 1919. Or service from Tahlequah to Point Defiance in 1920.
- Perhaps residents of your home helped complete the highway from Vashon Heights to Center, in 1920?
What stories do century-old dwellings tell? This is a question we hope to answer in the coming years.
We are seeking volunteers to help shape an annual tour of century-old homes on the island. We are looking for all kinds of volunteers, those who will tell stories, compile history, push a vacuum before a tour and those who will gather their friends and neighbors to attend. Please get in touch and help build the foundation for a great annual event. Contact Marissa at eventsmanager@vashonheritage.org
