Vashon Heritage Museum Talks

Ellen and Stephen will offer a virtual tour of the Vashon Heritage Museum's groundbreaking exhibit, IN AND OUT: Being LGBTQ on Vashon Island, followed by discussion of how it came together and how it's impacting the Island.  There will be Q&A.

Stephen Silha is a writer, filmmaker, and communications consultant who has lived on Vashon over 40 years.  He has written for The Christian Science Monitor, The Minneapolis Star, Vashon Beachcomber, and other journals. His documentary, BIG JOY: The Adventures of James Broughton, screened at over 50 film festivals and won several awards. He has volunteered with Vashon HouseHold, Development of Island Teens, and other Island organizations.

Ellen Kritzman is a longtime Islander with a background in zoology and study of mammals. A veteran of the Library of Congress and the University of Washington Libraries, she curated Mammals at University of Puget Sound's Slater Museum of Natural History. On Vashon, she co-founded the Land Trust, Audubon Society, Gay Pride Alliance and Friends of Mukai.  She authored the Vashon Nature Center's Field Guide to the Mammals of Vashon Island.
